In Tofino, on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, the Wickaninnish Inn is situated on a rocky outcrop between the Pacific Ocean,Chesterman Beach and a forest of giant evergreens. The design of its two buildings was entrusted to several artists, including the late celebrated wood carver Henry Nolla, with the aim of blending art, nature and culture. The rooms with their hand adzed mantles, fireplaces and large bay windows, offer grandiose views of waves breaking on the shore. After a plant or marine-based spa treatment and an initiation to sea kayaking, you could even set off to see pods of whales a few miles offshore.
